Mission Photographs 1871-1901.

This series comprises 111 sepia-toned photographs of the General Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in North America (GC) India mission field from approximately 1871-1901. There are several photographs showing GC missionaries, as well as Indian people and scenes. The majority of photographs are from a photograph album compiled by Miss Agnes I. Schade, a GC missionary in India from 1890-1925. Album pages were separated and placed in individual folders. The back cover was discarded, but the front cover was retained for the photograph affixed to it. Most of the photographs in this series are undated, but do have identification on either the photograph itself or written by Miss Schade. Included in the album are several postcards, two wedding invitations, a New Year greeting, and some items written in Telegu, the Indian language in Andhra region. Care should be taken with the handling of album pages. They are very brittle.
